The ONE Championship files, Part 2: Just who is the man in the suit?
Chatri Sityodtong has crafted a well-tailored story about himself and his origins, is it true?
From the very beginning, ONE Championship promoted itself as a brand that was going to do big things. With the calm and reserved Victor Cui as the face of the organization, the allure of a new pan-Asian promotion bringing fighters together for big shows and a different flavor was an excellent proposition.
Curiously enough, you can go back on YouTube and try to find those early videos announcing the formation of this outfit. But they’re hard to find. Victor Cui himself has been relegated to taking something of a backseat in an administrative capacity. He had gently been set aside for the new figurehead to take the helm.
Enter Chatri Sityodtong.
Born to a Thai father and Japanese mother, Chatri has been on record discussing his early hardships and how he overcame them.
Yet there are some inconsistencies in his story or rather his stories.
Sometimes the only consistent factor in his tellings is the lack of verifiable detail.
